Harper has a great life and has everything she wants--except love. But a one-night stand at a wedding with the bride's brother can help take a girl's mind off anything.
Kevin Rossi is a superstar major league catcher who can have any woman he wants. So when Harper discovers she's pregnant after their one night of passion, she has no intention of making any demands on him. It will just be another secret to keep. ----------Interview by Renee Roberson
WOW: Jeannie, welcome! We are so excited to have you with us here today at WOW! The tagline on your author website describes your books as "Love stories that don't play by the rules." How would you say your novels live up to this description?
Jeannie: I mix my tropes, bring in heroines who are non-traditional, have alpha heroes who don't always fit the mold...I'll turn things upside down simply because I can, and my characters are better for it.
WOW: Your Forever Love Stories series features the stories of three siblings, Meg, Caroline and Kevin. Did you originally plan on writing a series about a specific family or did that evolve as you wrote the first book, The Temporary Wife?
Jeannie: Actually, my intention was to focus on Meg, Caroline and Harper when I started the three book series. I didn't know I was going to bring Kevin into the mix initially. But when I was writing Unexpectedly Yours, and Kevin popped up here and there, I knew he and Harper could have a lot of fun together. And they do! Their chemistry is off the charts!
WOW: We found you through your agent, Stephany Evans with FinePrint Literary Management. Speaking of agents, we always love to hear query stories. How did you go about finding your agent, and was it a long process?
Jeannie: My process has been more like getting through a maze. I've actually had a few agents. One, I parted ways with early in my writing journey, amicably, because her list was changing and I had to take a break from writing because of a bad car accident. She's a lovely woman, very professional, and I learned a lot from her. I had a not so good experience with an agent, (who will not be named) before I landed with FinePrint. My first agent at FinePrint, was Becky Vinter, who has since left agenting and I met her at an author networking event. She requested material from me, and I eventually signed with her. When she left the agency, I was lucky to have Stephany take me on! If I've learned anything from this "process" it's that publishing is always changing and people are always moving.
WOW: I think that's wonderful insight for any writer struggling to find the right place for their book(s)
--thanks so much for sharing that! I've always heard to read as much as you can in the genre that you write . . . so who would you say some of your favorite romance authors?
Jeannie: Kristan Higgins, Robyn Carr, Virginia Kantra, JoAnn Ross, Laura Moore, Julia Quinn, Carly Phillips....I could go on and on and on.
WOW: What advice do you have for writers focusing on the contemporary romance genre? Any do's and don'ts you've learned over the years?
Jeannie: Hmmm. Avoid pop culture references, it will date your book. Alpha heroes are fine, but they're always better mixed with a little beta. The guy with a heart of gold is irresistible.
