Friday Speak Out!: Birthday & Writing Messages

Friday, August 29, 2014
by Marcia Peterson

Today is Friday Speak Out day, and it's also my birthday.

Birthdays are times to reflect, dream and plan. I'll share some favorite inspirational messages that seem to fit birthdays as well as the writing life. See if any of these messages might be directed at you too!*

*As a fun game, close your eyes and pick a number between one and ten right now. Then scroll/count down to the image that correlates with your number--that's your personal message. Tell us what you got!

We're also accepting submission for Fridays Speak Out posts from our readers (for September--and beyond!) . Check out our guidelines and join the fun.

I got BE AS YOU WISH YOU SEEM. This is really weird because. . .I am in a moms' group here called MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) and this year our theme is Be You, Bravely. I am on the steering team and we each had to pick a quote that we felt we needed to work on this year. Mine was: "Sometimes I have to remind myself that I don't have to do what everyone else is doing."
I think the universe is trying to tell me something! Happy birthday, Marcia!

Number 8 on being a happy, joyous person: There is a lightness, a physical lightness, to people who radiate happiness: those who truly love life. It's contagious and uplifting. Negativity and depression are heavy and weigh-down everyone around the negative person. By exuding a natural and sincere joy, one can avoid adding to the burdens of those around us. Happiness is a gift to be shared.

#5 "Be as you wish to seem"
I've been living that way without knowing it. I have always wanted to appear calm to outsiders and I have successful at doing that. Well, I have on MOST occasions.  I’m continuing to gain peace and wisdom as I get older. Internally, I’m becoming more and more like the person that people see each and every day…and I love it.

I got number eight and found it to be very profound. There are times when I struggle with being a happy joyous person but make a strong effort to do it for those who love me.
Happy BDay, fellow Virgo!

I got "If you are having trouble knowing where to begin, Begin anywhere." How fitting! I often struggle with beginnings when I'm overwhelmed, and this is great advice. :) I hope you are having a wonderful birthday Marcia! Wishing you the best on your special day. XO

Fun game! I got "If you are having trouble knowing where to begin, Begin anywhere." How fitting! I was just thinking of re-working my website and my head was swimming.
