Yvonne: I love to travel and I wanted to try writing a fiction novel, so I thought it would be fun to combine those two items. And since I did not start my writing career till I was in my fifties, I also wanted to show that it was never too late to try something new and show the audience we are never too old to be used by God to accomplish His purposes.
WOW: What an inspirational experience! How do you approach each new project, keeping God at the forefront of your mind?
Yvonne: When I started writing my first book, I dedicated the work to God. So before I start each new project, I spend a lot of time in prayer to see what God wants me to write. After the first write through, I go back and make sure the message of the Gospel is clear throughout the works. I try to make sure everything points the reader back to God.
WOW: I love that approach. Are you an outliner or a pantser or both? And why?
Yvonne: I'm more of a panster, although I do have a general idea of my story and the message I want to convey. But once I'm writing, I let the story direct me. Somethings go off in different directions than I first expected. Doing it this way keeps the story interesting and exciting for me. Sometimes, my characters wake me up at night to tell me what they want to do, lol. Writers are a crazy bunch.
WOW: Ha, I know how that is! I love your story about how you came to write novels, and your husband played a part. Can you recount that for our readers?
Yvonne: I love the story too. After many years of short-term mission work, I felt God nudging me to write stories from the mission field. I laughed because I thought I was too old and I was not a writer. But the nudge would not go away. So, finally, I asked God to speak through my husband if this was really Him and not my imagination. And I never told any of this to my husband. About a month later, Bill and I sat watching TV and he looked over at me and asked how my book was coming along? I cried and he asked what was happening. I told Bill the story and he responded with "I guess your writing a book." So I did.
WOW: That's incredible! How have your mission trips for the Lord inspired your writing?
Yvonne: God gave me a heart for other cultures of the world and He has shown me how anyone of us can make a difference in the world. There is nothing to fear from those who differ from us and I want to show that in my works. I also try to share that sense of awe and adventure that I get from mission trips in all of my writing. God has so many bigger and better things planned for us if we just trust Him when He calls us.
WOW: Amen to that! What are your writing routines?
Yvonne: I'm retired and find the best writing routines in a quiet house. And my husband loves to golf so I shoo him away to the golf course when I need some time to write. To start, I usually get a cup of coffee or tea and sit on my couch with my laptop. I usually have my Bible near by in case I need to reference something. And I try to start each session with a prayer. Although, sometimes the ideas are bursting out of my head and I forget to pray.
WOW: What a lovely routine! What do you hope readers take away from reading your book?
Yvonne: The story offers hope to those readers seeking a Godly purpose for their lives. A Gypsy for God shows how anyone can transform their lives and their world regardless of their situation or age. We are never too old or too for God to do incredible things for us and through us. And, in these days of increasing turmoil, I think hope is one of our most important message that we can share with the world around us.

Wonderful interview, Nicole and Yvonne! This sounds like a really inspiring book! I read the opening pages on Amazon and was hooked right away. :) I love stories that feature a middle age protagonist. Good luck on your tour!
