New Year Resolutions Yay or Nay?

A lovely view from my corner of the cornfield ~ Crystal
Scrolling through my social media there seems to be a split between those making resolutions and those saying "I'm just going to try to be a better person each and every day instead of making a resolution" or "I'm just going to appreciate everything and everyone more this year." I'm busy closing out the books at work and at home for our family business - it won't feel like 2020 for a few more days. Once the dust settles, I'll likely make a few goals for myself - call them resolutions if you like. How about you and your writing life? Is there a place for some New Year's Resolutions? If yes - tell us why? If no - what's your reasoning behind not making any?

In general, I'm very goal oriented. When it comes to weight loss and my health, I find that it's very important to have short term goals and long term goals as well as some way to stay accountable. I'm the same way with finances, but for some reason I have a harder time with my writing goals. As I think of past goals, I wonder if I've made the goals too broad. Past goals have included: make time each day for writing, or a general write more type of goal. I have a feeling the reason I fell short of those goals is because they are hard to measure and be accountable with.

I'm challenging myself to set a goal of journaling 10 minutes a day for at least 5 days each week in 2020. I'm challenging myself to 30,000 words by August for my novel. My hope is that by using something more concrete with goal setting I'll be able to meet or exceed my own expectations instead of ending the year feeling like I've failed.

What has worked for you?
Are you accountable on your author page?
Does social media play a part in your process?

Please share some tips and tricks that may help people like me have the most successful 2020 possible! Thank you in advance!

Hugs,
