Ever since she was a wee lass, Sioban O'Rourke has wanted to dance in her mother Ava's footsteps. But when they left the streets of Dublin for the bright light of Hollywood, Ava's dreams withered, and so did Sioban's. Without Ava's dark beautiful looks, and sporting a temper to match her fiery mane, Sioban didn't think she'd ever break out of the seedy strip club life that had claimed her mother. Then she was forced to flee that life, and run straight to her best friend Vonda's doorstep--and right into the chance for real success. Inside Vonda's new club The Velvet Room, Sioban also finds herself facing off with no-nonsense security expert Danny Sheridan. He's all brawn. She's all sass. And they both may have met their match!

***** Book Review of Burlesque Bad *****
When I began this review, I started by prefacing it with "I don't really read that many romances" when it occurred to me that actually, I do. Romance...or at least relationships are so entwined in humanity that it's in just about every type of book I read: historical fiction, mystery, fantasy, and it even plays a role in many of the non-fiction biographies I enjoy. Perhaps that's why romance books are so popular--they're familiar to readers. We've all had, observed or dreamed about a romantic relationship.
For me the appeal of Burlesque Bad was the tension between the familiar and the exotic. Author Nina Day Gerard created characters so comfortable, so authentic that one lovable guy even reminded me of my husband. These are characters that feel like real people. No one is perfect, most people don't know what the heck they're doing, they're loyal to their friends and have unpredictable relationships with the people they love.
Gerard uses an exotic twist to raise this book above the boy meets girl, boy loses girl predictable plot. These ordinary people find themselves thrust into a world full of exotic dancing, billionaires and mobsters. It was easy to become immersed in the story when characters with traits that remind you of people you know stumble into impossible situations.
This was a fun book, just right for Valentine's Day. I look forward to more books in the Destiny of the Dance series.

Jodi--I REALLY don't read romance novels--except for Lisa Ricard Claro's triology, which sucked me in--but I wish all the other followers luck in the give-away.
