Feeding Your Spirit to feed Your Writing

Hiya writers. Today's post is about feeding your spirit to feed your writing. Why is this important? In order for us to write, we need to live and believe in ourselves. Feeding your spirit is about regaining faith in yourself and your writing.
Life is hard and it is a challenge. As a single working mom, I can attest to this personally. As a therapist, I recognize that I haven't been feeding my spirit. In fact, I feel my spirit's taking a beating and so has my writing along with it.
So, what can I (or you writers) do to refresh myself spiritually and remember faith in myself?

1. Review your accomplishments. Sometimes remembering all the great things you've done in the past (writing or otherwise) can help you remember your strength and your true capabilities. I often think about how I went back to school full-time, while working full-time and being a full-time mom and got amazing grades. I remember not sleeping much and doing homework outside of home. I wonder how I got through that and remember that inner strength that kept me going.

2. Talk to your friends and family about what they admire of you. Sometimes we get so bogged down with life in general that we get blinded to our own talents. Ask the people that care about you what they see in you. I have a wonderful friend who tells me about my tenacity and drive during the toughest times. She reminds me of what's special about me.

3. Go back to hobbies that you enjoy. We focus so much on writing that we forget that we also have to fuel our creativity. As I write this, I'm listening to music. Music is so inspiring to me and I realized that I haven't been listening to it at all these days. As if I don't have time to listen to it (which I do). Go back to those things that inspire you because that will inspire your writing.

4. Remember to take time out to rest. Again life keeps us busy, but we all need to unwind and relax for awhile. Take a few minutes at the beginning, middle and end of your day. In the morning, think about going into your day with a positive attitude and reflect on that. At lunchtime, review how you did that morning. Did you keep a positive outlook? If not, what took you off course? If you were successful, use that tool often. In the evening, reflect on what was good and what wasn't so good. Then let that go.

Writers, remember to feed your spirit as much as possible because your writing is affected by that. Your writing will come to life because of it and you'll be inspired again.

Happy Writing!

What a beautiful and inspiring post, thanks so much! My day job brining me down and been feeling uninspired all week.

Fav advice is reminding yourself what inspires you. Agree about music! I think I will try to discover some new music to help jog the muse.

I also find that helps is following some motivating writers on Twitter and other social media. Very encouraging!

    Thanks again,

  2. Hiya Claire,

Thanks so much for reading and for the compliment. I'm sorry that you've been feeling uninspired. It happens to the best of us. I tend to remind myself of the good stuff when I'm feeling low. Like counting your blessings when you feel blue. That always picks me up. :) I do follow other writers who inspire me. Great idea! Please come again soon for a visit. Take care.
